Frequently Asked Questions

What if I do not have a valid ID?
Some first-time voters in Maryland will be asked to show ID before voting. If you are asked to show ID, please show an election judge one of the following forms of ID: a copy of a current and valid photo ID (i.e., Maryland driver's license, MVA ID card, student, employee, or military ID card, U.S. passport, or any other State or federal government-issued ID card); or copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address. Current means that the document is dated within 3 months of the election.

Can someone else drop off my ballot in early voting?
You must hand deliver your ballot to a local board of elections during early voting or on Election Day. You can also mail in your ballot but make sure the envelope is postmarked on or before general election day (November 8 for the Gubernatorial General Election.). It must be postmarked on or before each election day to be counted. Maryland also has several ballot drop off boxes.

What if I miss the deadline to register?
You can also register to vote on election day, but to make the process quicker you are encouraged to register before Election Day. If you can't register by that date go to an early voting center in the county where you live during early voting OR on Election Day go to an election day voting center in the county where you live and bring a document that proves where you live.
