On Tuesday, January 6, the Baltimore County Fire Department announced that Julia Ann Anderson had died Sunday night.

Investigators believe discarded smoking materials caused the fire.

The home was equipped with working smoke alarms which are credited for alerting the other resident who survived.

Anderson's death marks Baltimore County's first fire related fatality of the year.

Fire officials have released a bit more information on the two people injured in the fire.

The 76-year-old woman rescued from the basement is now listed in critical condition, while the man who escaped is expected to recover.

Two people are fighting for their lives following a Sunday morning fire in Parkville.

Flames broke out around 7:20am inside the basement of a home on Weston Avenue.

Baltimore County Firefighters pulled one person from the burning house, with another able to escape themselves.

Both suffered injuries that are considered life-threatening.

The fire was under control within half-an-hour.

There's no word on the cause.
