Baltimore County firefighters have received a donation of pet-friendly oxygen masks.

Fire officials say that Invisible Fence Brand, which makes electronic pet fences, donated 58 pet oxygen kits to county fire stations Wednesday.

Firefighters can use masks in the kits to help deliver oxygen to animals that suffer smoke inhalation as a result of fires.

The department says that while the primary goal of firefighters is saving human lives, county fire officials are committed to helping animals when possible.

"For many pet owners, cats, dogs and other animals are members of the family," Fire Chief John Hohman said in a statement. "We know how important it is to rescue them when we can."

The total cost of the donated kits, which contain small, medium and large masks, is nearly $3,500.
