A Baltimore chef who was shot and killed in the city this week will be honored with a memorial at his alma mater Friday.
Michael Bates was shot and killed during a robbery outside his home on Pen Lucy Road in southwest Baltimore. Police said three people approached him to rob him and he had his hands in the air when one of the robbers shot him.
Bates, who had recently started his own catering company, was a Stratford University alum. A memorial celebration is planned at the Stratford University Baltimore Campus in Little Italy at noon Friday.
Bates was also the executive chef of the former Phaze 10 restaurant.
