Advisories were issued on Tropical Depression 6, forming off the west-central coast of Florida, early this morning. A couple of hours later the Depression was upgraded to a Tropical Storm. Tropical Storm Emily has become the 5th named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.
Tropical Storm Warnings were issued from Tampa to Sanibel. The Center of Emily will move inland over the west-central Florida peninsula later today, move across central Florida through tonight and exit into the Atlantic, north of the Bahamas, Tuesday morning.
Emily is expected to be a slow mover, so heavy rain is the biggest threat. A total rain accumulation of 2-4 inches through Monday night along the west coast of central Florida between Tampa Bay and Naples, with isolated amounts up to 8 inches is possible. Across central and south Florida 1-2 inches of rain is expected with localized amounts of up to 4 inches is possible.
Stay tuned as the ABC2 Weather Team continues to keep an "eye on the tropics!
