HAMPSTEAD, Md. — Vernon Foster is a World War II veteran staying at the Golden Crest Assisted Living facility in Hampstead. While no visitors are allowed inside the building, he had a special surprise on Friday, May 8.

National Guard and band members performed outside the facility in the parking lot as Foster and the other residents watched from the porch. This was to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day) on May 8, 1945. This day marked the end of World War II in Europe.

Foster is the first veteran WMAR-2 News highlighted as part of the Voice for Veterans series.
