The Maryland Terrapins women’s basketball team learned Monday they are the No. 5 seed in the Kansas City Regional of the NCAA Tournament. They will face No. 12 Princeton on Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina. Game time is set for Noon.

“I really like our bracket, our matchups, where we’re headed,” said Terps Head Coach Brenda Frese. “(Princeton is a) well coached team. They’ll play hard. It’s going to be a tough first round matchup for us.”

The program hosted a selection show watch party on Monday night at Xfinity Center, where for so many years they have hosted a couple rounds of the NCAA Tournament by earning a top four seed. Now, as a five seed, they have to travel.

So, is there a chip on Maryland’s shoulder as they hit the road?

“I mean, yes but we just want to go out there and take it one game at a time and just focus on playing our basketball,” said Terps guard/forward Kaila Charles.

“For us it’s really never about the number,” said Terps guard Kristen Confroy. “It’s about playing the level we know we can play at. To be honest with you, I think sometimes going on the road is good for a young team like us.”

As for the Terps men, they are not playing in the postseason. They did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament and did not get an invite to the National Invitation Tournament.

ABC2 Sports Reporter Shawn Stepner asked to speak with Coach Mark Turgeon and his players on Monday but was told by Terps media relations that they were not available for comment.
