Maryland State Police are investigating a small plane that crashed in Berlin, shortly after taking off from Ocean City Municipal Airport.

Police say at about 9:15 a.m. troopers responded to the report of a crash at the Assateauge Greens Golf Center in the 9000 block of Stephen Decatur Highway.

The plane's two 60-year-old occupants – Guerrino and Mascelli Mascelli, both of Berlin –  were able to exit the aircraft, a Beechcraft Debonair, after the crash. They were taken to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Police say the plane crashed shortly after taking off from the small Eastern Shore airport. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
