Rush hour commuters In Baltimore County can once again take Mt. Carmel Road/MD-137 in UpperCo, as the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration reopens the span after heavy rains washed out the bridge in July.
The stretch of highway south of Gunpowder Road collapsed when a concrete culvert that carries Peggy's Run was washed out during last month's record rainfalls, MDOT SHA said.
The concrete culvert was replaced, wing walls were constructed, and zip rap stone was added to help prevent erosion, MDOT SHA said. The guardrail was also reinstalled and the soil was seeded to add stability.
