Community members around Waverly Elementary took shoveling into their own hands Thursday, holding a party to shovel out snow.
Though city schools remain closed through the rest of the week, volunteers recruited residents to help clean the sidewalks around the school, providing doughnuts, hot cocoa, tea and coffee.
Volunteers said they didn't want to see anyone hit by cars as a result of unclear sidewalks.
