Mayor Catherine Pugh is still on a leave of absence from her job as mayor of Baltimore but Monday she tweeted about the death of House Speaker Mike Busch.

She said, "I join my colleagues in government in mourning the passing of the longest-serving state House speaker in Maryland history, @SpeakerBusch."

She goes on to call him a great, leader, legislator, and public servant and said it was an honor to have served under his leadership.

Governor Bob Erhlich appointed Pugh to an open seat in the Maryland House of Delegates in 2005, where she served from June 21, 2005, to January 10, 2007 before being elected to the state senate.

This is the first we've heard from Mayor Pugh since she took a leave of absence on April 1 amid the controversy over her "Healthy Holly" book dealings as a member of the board of the University of Maryland Medical System.

This statement comes the same day that all current members of the Baltimore City Council, except for ex officio Mayor Jack Young, signed a letter calling for Mayor Pugh to resign.
