When a pet is lost, it's a scary time for his or her owner.

Last month, a pitbull stolen from its home in Baltimore was found three days later after his owners offered a $4,000 reward.

Now, his owners have launched Finding Knox, an organization dedicated to preventing pet theft in Baltimore.

Luckily, there are many organizations that help track down lost or stolen pets in the Baltimore area.

Here are a few:

The Maryland SPCA

More than 20 percent of the pets that come to the Maryland SPCA are lost, according to the organization. If you have lost or found a pet, email, call 410-235-8826 or visit the website, which has a complete directory of lost and found pets.

Baltimore Pet Connection

Founded in 2012, the organization finds missing pets and ones who are looking for their owners. Connect with the organization through its Facebook page

Lost and Found Animals of Maryland

Lost and Found Animals of Maryland helps pet owners track down their lost pets. Owners can post pictures of their dogs, cats or other animals on the organization's Facebook page, which encourages users to share photos to help people track down the lost animals.

Dogs Finding Dogs

The Baltimore-based nonprofit is an organization of trained handlers and dogs that can track and find a lost pet. Dogs Finding Dogs has assisted more than 4,000 pet owners since 2008. If you've lost your dog, call 410-908-6374, or go to the website for more information.
