Violence in Ocean City continues, as gunfire broke out overnight Friday

OCEAN CITY, Md. — Gunfire broke out in Ocean City this past Friday, as violence continued to plague the resort town since it reopened from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest incident happened overnight, just before 4 a.m. in the area of 6th Street and Washington Lane.

Officers in the area heard gunshots and saw a man running north on Washington Lane.

A juvenile male from Salisbury was then found suffering from gunshot wounds to the buttocks and arm. He was treated at a local hospital and later released.

The incident stemmed from an earlier confrontation at a nearby hotel between two groups. Later on 6th street, the two groups got into it again resulting in the shooting.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Colin K. Heckman, of Milton, Pennsylvania. He was taken into custody on scene and charged with several crimes.

Police in Ocean City have been busy as of late and beefed up staffing, as several large fights, stabbings, and attacks have been reported over the last two weeks.

Multiple arrests have been made related to those incidents, while some remain under investigation.
