ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — Howard County leaders on Friday recognized two lifeguards and a swimmer at the Roger Carter Community Center, crediting them with saving the life of a fellow swimmer who stopped breathing.

The County Recreation and Parks Department released 911 tapes and video of the heroic act.

In the video, a man stops swimming and seems to lose consciousness. Shortly after, something goes horribly wrong and he begins floating.

A swimmer in the nearest lap aisle notices this and makes the life guard aware.

From that point on, it's all hands on deck. Lifeguards pull the motionless man out of the pool and take turns applying CPR.

The 911 tapes detail the eye witness accounts of two different callers.

As medics are responding, a dispatcher tells them the man regained a pulse.
