ROSEDALE, Md. — A shootout at a Rosedale motel ended with one man dead. Baltimore County Police said they were trying to get into 43-year-old Kareem Morgan's room to arrest him Saturday night, when he started shooting at them.

Officers returned fire and Morgan was shot and killed.

"He is the same suspect who was responsible for shooting a woman in Windsor Mill that morning," said Baltimore County officer Jen Peach.

Police were searching for Morgan since Saturday morning, when they say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home in Windsor Mill, fought her, shot her in the leg and then took off. The 37-year-old woman, who is recovering, told police the two had just broken up a few days before after a long relationship. She gave police his name and car description and a few hours later, a patrol officer spotted the vehicle in the Duke's Motel parking lot, which is off Pulaski Highway in Rosedale.

After figuring out which room he was staying in, police got search and arrest warrants. Peach said the shootout started when the tactical team was trying to get into Morgan's room just before 8 p.m.

No officers were hurt, and the police department is investigating who was involved.

"The process involves taking everyone's guns who may have been involved or who may have shot and figuring out which bullets go to which guns and how many shots of ours were actually fired, how many bullets are actually missing out of each gun; so there's a lot of making 100% certain that we know exactly what happened, who shot which bullets and where their bullets went to," said Peach.

Any officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave until the investigation is over.
