ROSEDALE, Md. — Baltimore County Police said a suspect wanted in connection with a Saturday morning shooting is dead after a shootout with officers at a Rosedale motel.

The department said police responded to the 1700 block of Winding Brook Way in Windsor Mill at around 5:00 a.m. Saturday for a shooting. The victim, a 37-year-old woman, called police after her ex-boyfriend forced his way into her home, fought her and then shot her in the leg before taking off. The woman told police they had just broken up after a long relationships, giving a name and car description, leading to a county-wide search.

Hours later, an officer from the White Marsh Precinct found the suspect's vehicle parked on the lot at Duke's Motel in the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway in Rosedale.

Officers figured out which room the suspect was in and got warrants to search the motel and arrest the suspect. As the tactical team was trying to get into the motel room, police said the suspect started shooting. Officers returned fire and the suspect was struck. He was treated for his injuries but later died at the scene.

Police said the suspect was the only person in the room at the time of the shooting. The department said no officers were injured during the shootout and all officers involved will be placed on routine administrative leave until an investigation is complete.

Detectives leading the investigation are working to identify the suspect and make proper death notifications. The suspect's ex-girlfriend, who was shot early in the morning, is expected to survive.
