CCBC’s Performing Arts and Humanities, in partnership with Maryland Humanities, brings history to life this summer for Chautauqua 2018: Seeking Justice.

Maryland Humanities celebrates its 24th season by hosting “conversations with historical figures” showcasing their contributions to the quest for justice in the United States. Learn from three historical figures as they come to life on stage and share their visions for a just society.

All performances of Chautauqua begin at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 S. Rolling Road.

July 13 – Abolitionist, orator and writer Frederick Douglass portrayed by Bill Grimmette

July 14 – First Lady, humanitarian and diplomat Eleanor Roosevelt portrayed by Susan Marie Frontczak

July 15 – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall portrayed by Brian Anthony Wilson

Scholar-actors appear in costume and address the audience as the historical figure and then answer questions as that person. The actor later steps out of character and tells how they researched the historical figure for the performance.

Chautauqua is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are needed.
