This is no joke. Starting April 1st Maryland State Police will be revving up efforts to stop distracted driving.

"Phones Down- Buckle Up, Enforcement Underway" will be on message boards throughout Frederick County starting Monday April 1st, and will remain up the entire month.

Maryland State Police will be working with their allied law enforcement partners, in all areas of Western Maryland, to stop drivers from using their cell phones while behind the wheel.

According to a release from Maryland State Police 27,000 people are killed a year in the United States in crashes that involve a distracted driver. Statistics also show wearing a seat belt, properly, can reduce the risk of a deadly collision by 45% and cut down critical injuries by half.
