Well it's that time of year again to "Fall Back". Those clocks flip back by one hour leaving us with less daylight during the evening hours which is a signal that colder temperatures and snow are near.

Have you noticed lately that the days are getting longer? Well it's not a fluke.

The amount of daylight this time of year decreases as we work our way toward the Winter solstice. Take today for instance our sunrise started the day at 7:32am and sunset ends the day at 6:07pm. If you add those two together that gives us 10 hours 35 minutes and 26 seconds of daylight. Once we get to November 4th that number decreases to 10 hours 24 minutes and 14 seconds. The shortest days of the year though are on December 21st and 22nd when the Winter solstice occurs. This is when the sun is over the Tropic of Capricorn. The daylight on both of these days is 9 hours 24 minutes and 1 second with sunset times right around 4:46pm.

The next time we will see a sunset after 5pm will be January 4th. Just know Winter is coming in fast and as soon as you know it we will all be back in the great indoors enjoying one of those frigid Maryland nights.
