4 more days until winter but who's counting!

The Winter Solstice will be ushered in at 11:19 this Saturday, December 21 at 11:19 p.m.

Solstice is Latin for Sun stopping. The sun actually appears to stop or stand still a few days before and after the Winter Solstice.

The Winter Solstice happens the moment the sun moves over the Tropic of Capricorn which is the line of latitude 23 1/2 degrees south of the Equator.

The sun is the most direct/intense in the Southern Hemisphere and it is the shortest day of the year. Right after the winter solstice the days start getting longer.

It's been feeling like winter for a while now. Finally, it will officially be winter in just a few more days. Cheers to the final count down and to all the lovers of winter!
