I distinctly remember the day back in 2013 when I decided to run a half-marathon.
It was just a few weeks after I’d conquered the Annapolis Ten Mile Run, my first big road race after years of running casually on the treadmill.

If I could run a 10-mile race, I reasoned, I could surely run 13.1 miles. That’s only another 5K!
I saw there was a half-marathon coming up in Annapolis, the Annapolis Running Classic, that November. I signed up, trained hard and finished my first half in a little over an hour and 53 minutes.
In the years since, I’ve run many more half-marathons, plus two full-length ones. But that first half-marathon has a special place in my heart.
Which is why I’m so excited to be a member of the 2016 Annapolis Running Classic A-Team!
As a member of the team, I’ll be serving as an ambassador to this year’s race, helping to promote it on social media, encouraging other runners and serving as a source of information about the event, which includes both a half-marathon and a 10K course.
The half is a fairly challenging course—Annapolis is hillier than one might think, and the half-marathon crosses the steep Naval Academy Bridge twice. But you can’t beat the views, nor can you find a better race after-party. You won’t just get bananas and bagels at the finish line—at the Annapolis Running Classic, you’ll get Fordham craft beers, hot soup and oysters post-race.
The Annapolis Running Classic is Saturday, Nov. 19, and you can sign up here. Don’t delay—last year’s 10K race sold out.

I hope to be sharing some training tips throughout the summer on this blog, and I’d love to hear from others who are training for this race! Drop me a line at allison.bourg@wmar.com, or on Twitter @abourg_abc2.
