Rashawn Thomas scored 23 points for Texas A&M Corpus Christi and the Islanders dominated the second half to defeat UMBC 79-61 on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the CIT.
Kareem South added 20 points for the Islanders (24-11), who play at home on Friday in the Collegeinsider.com Tournament championship game against Saint Peter's. Ehab Amin added 16 points and Joseph Kilgore had 14.
Rodney Elliott and Will Darley had 15 points apiece for the Retrievers (21-13), who finished with the second most wins in their Division I history under first-year coach Ryan Odom. UMBC won just seven games last year.
The Islanders shot 73 percent (19 of 26) in the second half.
UMBC leading scorer Jairus Lyles (knee) did not play in the game.
