The Towson Tigers came up with the upset Sunday afternoon against Charles Street rival Loyola Greyhounds.

Towson outscored No. 19 Loyola 6-2 in the second half to claim the 9-5 victory. The Tigersare now 4-0.

The first half was a defensive struggle as both teams fought to find the back of the net. The two teams went into the half tied 3-3. Towson out shot the Greyhounds 12-9 in the first and won five of the seven draw controls.

The Tigers' defense remained tough in the second half, while the offense exploded. Towson went on a 3-0 run, taking a 7-4 lead with just under 17 minutes remaining. During that run, Kaitlyn Montalbano scored her second of the game, Emily Gillingham and Katie Sciandra each scored free position goals.

Towson scored the last two goals of the game to secure the 9-5 win.

"I thought today was a game of momentum swings," said Towson head coach Sonia LaMonica. "We came out strong, they came back and then we took control in the second half. We continued to do a good job on draws for the most part and our defensive zone was really strong and made some big stops for us. Our attack played good team defense and shared the load with the scoring being so balanced."

Sunday's victory marks the first time the Tigers have defeated the Greyhounds since 2012. Towson's 4-0 start is the best start to a season under LaMonica.

Towson returns to action Saturday when they host Georgetown at 3 p.m. The Greyhounds travel to Penn State Saturday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
