Poly boys hoops wins first state championship

Poly's long road to basketball success has ended with the ultimate prize.

The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute boys basketball team captured its first state championship in program history Saturday, edging Potomac High School 64-63 in the 3A title game at XFINITY Center.

Engineers forward De'Vondre Perry led all scorers with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

Poly's Torrin Stephens added 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Demetrius Mims had tallied 14 points.

The Engineers finish their magical season with a record of 22-7.
