Redemption is sweet for Perry Hall High School boys basketball.
The Gators won their first state championship in program history Saturday. They topped Quince Orchard 59-56 in overtime to capture the 4A Maryland state title at XFINITY Center.
Perry Hall senior James Rider went 8-8 from the field and scored a team-high 18 points. Laquill Hardnett added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Gators.
Matt Kelly tallied a game-high 22 points for the Cougars.
Perry Hall, who lost in the 2016 state title game, ends the season with a record of 26-2. Quince Orchard's final record is 24-3.
