DICKERSON, Md. (AP) - Members of the U.S. Olympic canoe and kayak team are demonstrating their skills in Montgomery County ahead of the games August in Rio de Janeiro.

Maryland native Ashley Nee is among the athletes participating in the event Friday morning at the Dickerson Whitewater Course. The 26-year-old athlete grew up in Darnestown and now lives in Bethesda. This will be her first Olympics.

World Championship bronze medalist Michal Smolen of Charlotte, North Carolina, and three-time Olympian Casey Eichfeld of Drums, Pennsylvania, are also participating in the slalom demonstration.

The Dickerson course is owned by NRG Energy Inc. It was built in 1991 inside a 900-foot concrete channel that returns cooling water from a coal-fired power plant to the Potomac River.
