Ravens preparing for next year

Posted

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -- Eliminated from playoff contention and mired in their first losing season since John Harbaugh took over in 2008, the Baltimore Ravens are peeking ahead to next season.

Harbaugh said Monday: "Next year has already begun."

A 35-6 pounding by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday dropped Baltimore to 4-9. The Ravens must win one of their last three games -- starting Sunday at home against Kansas City -- to avoid matching the worst record in franchise history.

Harbaugh says, "We're going through a painful, tough season. ... We just cannot find a way to pull ourselves out of this."

The Ravens added another name to their expansive injury list Monday when defensive end Chris Canty was put on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.

Meanwhile, Harbaugh says he "can't confirm" reports that Baltimore has signed free agent quarterback Ryan Mallett.
