A University System of Maryland spokesperson tells WMAR-2 News the Board of Regents expects to announce by Friday the names of up to five additional members of the commission previously formed by the University of Maryland, College Park to examine the culture of its football program.
The announcement comes after Jordan McNair died from heatstroke after collapsing at practice. Following his death, ESPN wrote an article about the toxic culture of the football program.
On Tuesday WMAR-2 Sports Reporter Shawn Stepner received the following update from a University System of Maryland spokesperson:
"Last Friday, the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents voted to assume leadership of two separate investigations into, first, the tragic death of Jordan McNair and, second, the culture of the football program at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). In announcing these decisions, the board indicated that it planned to share additional details this week. To that end, USM expects to announce no later than Friday the names of up to five additional members of the commission previously formed by UMCP to examine the culture of its football program. No additional decisions have been made to date, and no further decisions or announcements are expected this week."
