UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Medstar Health sent home its 1000th COVID-19 patient treated at its hospitals.
The patient, a 60-year-old man from Upper Marlboro was given an emotional send-off by staff at Washington Hospital Center on Thursday evening.
Now a tradition at the hospital, dozens of healthcare workers gather to form a ‘clap line’ to celebrate a patient going home to be with their families.
According to the hospital, the patient spent five-days in the hospital after initially checking-in with a high fever, cough, shortness of breath, and body aches.
Members of his care team say they are thrilled to send the 1000th patient home, and that these celebrations give them so much strength to keep up the fight against COVID-19.
Currently there are 1,668 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Maryland, including 568 in intensive care.
