A pharmaceutical company is moving its headquarters in Maryland and could hire more than 100 people.

The Supernus Pharmaceuticals' headquarters is relocating to Gaithersburg.

The move could result in 160 new jobs in Montgomery County over the next five years.

In a press release, Vice President of Quality, GMP Operations and Information Technology of Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Frank Mottola, said, "Supernus is excited to continue its long tenure in Montgomery County and to expand its headquarters in support of our company’s growth."

The company expects to move into the 118,000 square-foot facility on Quince Orchard Road in 2019 and have construction completed by 2020.

State and local governments are helping with project costs. The Maryland Department of Commerce approved $800,000 through the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund (MEDAAF) to be applied to the project. Montgomery County is giving a $500,000 conditional grant and the City of Gaithersburg will provide a grant up to $400,000.

"For more than two decades, Supernus has been hard at work in Maryland developing medicines that have the potential to help patients around the globe," Governor Larry Hogan said in a press release. "We are pleased that Supernus’ success with its products has led to this expansion and the potential to double its workforce in Montgomery County."

The Maryland Department of Commerce will also give a $90,000 training grant through the Partnership for Workforce Quality (PWQ) program. It will allow Supernus Pharmaceuticals to train employees on high-tech IT process controls and capabilities."

The Supernus Pharmaceuticals develops products for treatment of central nervous system diseases.
