UPDATE: UMD Police say the shelter in place order on campus has been lifted; they will maintain a presence on campus. Prince George's County Police continue to investigate the robbery.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, University of Maryland Police asked students to shelter in place while a search was conducted for an armed man possibly on the College Park campus.

Police say a man armed with a handgun was wanted for a robbery that occurred off campus in the 8800 block of 36th Ave. Police say they and Prince George’s County officers were searching for the man in the woods behind the Chesapeake Building near Paint Branch Dr. He was described as a black man, with short bushy hair, and wearing a hoodie.

Police asked everyone in the area to follow all public safety orders.
