More details are becoming available following a deadly police involved shooting in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police say the incident occurred Monday at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the 9200 block of Three Oaks Drive.

The officer identified as Anand Badgujar reportedly was investigating a suspicious person when he encountered 41-year-old Robert Lawrence White.

According to police, body worn camera footage and witness statements reveal the officer attempted to speak with White, at which time he became combative and assaulted Badgujar. The officer then tried pepper spraying the subject. Over the next minute, Badgujar requested assistance. As White began walking away, the officer went to his cruiser to turn off the ignition. White again approached the officer and began charging at and knocking down Badgujar. As the officer was being knocked down, he discharged his weapon. White fell, returned to his feet and stood over the officer continuing the assault. Badgujar then proceeded to fire more rounds, incapacitating White.

Upon completing their investigation, major crimes detectives will submit their findings to the Howard County States Attorney's Office for review.

The body worn camera footage is expected to be released once the case is complete.
