A man is dead following a police involved shooting.

Montgomery County Police say the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. at 9233 Three Oaks Drive in Silver Spring.

The officer reportedly just cleared an unrelated call nearby in the 9100 block of Sligo Creek Parkway when he began investigating a suspicious person and encountered an unidentified black male.

When the officer attempted to speak with the man, he allegedly became combative and a physical altercation ensued. At some point the officer fired their weapon multiple times killing the male. No officers were injured.

According to authorities, several uninvolved witnesses heard and observed the shooting.

There's no indication the deceased was armed. It's believed the officer was equipped with an activated body worn camera during the scene.

The unnamed officer is a two year member of the Montgomery County Police Department.

Detectives with the major crimes section are investigating and will forward their findings to the Howard County States Attorney's Office for an independent review.
