A Montgomery County family was displaced from their home less than two weeks before Christmas after a fire early Friday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene early Friday on Sea Island Court in Silver Spring after the family attempted to fight the fire themselves in a second floor bedroom.
At least 75 firefighters were on scene to fight the two-alarm fire. They also had to contend with icy conditions from the single digit temperatures.
An official said the family was able to get out of the home without injury. The cause is unknown at this time.
Officials estimate the damage to be $300,000.
