HARPERS FERRY, Wv. (WMAR) — Several train cars plummeted into the Potomac river overnight Saturday in Harpers Ferry.
A CSX freight liner was trying to cross over a bridge, when seven empty train cars derailed, some of which fell into the water.
No injuries, spills, or hazmat issues were reported.
All cars have been recovered from the water and re-railed according to CSX.
The bridge and track sustained no structural damage and is now open to train traffic, but the attached pedestrian walkway was damaged and is closed indefinitely.
It's unclear what caused the derailment.
