Army vet fired after trying to stop shoplifters

A Beltsville man and Army veteran was fired after he tried to stop two shoplifters from running away from the CVS store he managed.

The men came into the CVS last week and ran to the pharmacy area, where they hopped the counter and had the pharmacist open their safe.

Joe Morici called 911 when he saw them -- but one of them was armed with a screwdriver. He confronted the men, but they ended up getting away.

A spokesman for CVS said in a statement "we do not comment on specific security procedures or policies as we do not want to undermine them."

Morici spent seven years in the Army, including a tour in Afghanistan.
