A family of 8 is getting help from the Red Cross after a fire ripped through their two-story Glenelg home Friday night.

Authorities said around 11:20 p.m. firefighters responded to a fire in the 13700 block of Bold Venture Drive in Glenelg. When crews arrived they found heavy fire coming from a garage and side of two-story single family home.

Officials said firefighters rescued two family dogs.  All eight family members escaped the blaze before rescue services arrived at the scene.

More than 55 firefighters from HCDFRS worked to extinguish the blaze.  Additionally, units from Carroll and Montgomery County provided mutual aid.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
