Crash on I-70 in Howard Co. leaves one dead

State police are investigating a crash involving a tractor trailer that left one man dead. 

A little after 4:30 a.m. Saturday, A Maryland State Police officer of the Waterloo barrack was called to investigate a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near Route 32.

When he arrived, he found EMS personnel already on the scene treating the victim and two vehicles that were involved in the crash.

The victim, John Trippe, 48, of West Virginia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor, Michael Bradley, 35, did not suffer any injures.

Police say Trippe was driving westbound on Interstate 70 when his vehicle struck a deer making it disabled.

Shortly after, the tractor trailer driven by Bradley struck Trippe’s Nissan Altima from behind.

Trippe was ejected from the car due to the impact, and the car was pushed off the roadway down an embankment into a ditch.

Due to the severity of the crash, Interstate 70 was closed for approximately four and a half hours.

No charges have been filed but Maryland State Police are still investigating the incident.
