ABERDEEN, Md. (WMAR) — Four baby opossums were rescued by police on Saturday after their mother was run over and killed by a train.

Aberdeen Police discovered the living baby opossums on the tracks behind the Frito Lay plant on Hickory Drive.

Officers initially found only three of the animals but then saw a fourth still squirming inside of the mother's marsupial pouch.

All four were taken in by police and turned over to a wildlife rescue agency, in hopes they can survive and make a full recovery.

Police released footage of the entire rescue.
