PORT DEPOSIT, Md. — A man is dead after losing control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle while reportedly trying to pass a school bus in Cecil County.

It happened Saturday, just after 7 p.m. on Susquehanna River Road near Canal Road in Port Deposit.

Maryland State Police say the driver, 26-year-old John Smith, and his passenger, 24-year-old Brittney Winter, both from Pennsylvania, drove off the roadway and were thrown from the motorcycle.

Smith was taken by ambulance to Harford Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Winter, was flown by helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Delaware. Her condition is unknown.

The school bus wasn't struck or carrying any passengers at the time officials say.

It took around three hours for crash re-constructionists to process the scene and reopen the roads.

Police didn't say whether speeding, alcohol, or drugs played a factor.
