Chairs of all shapes and sizes line the walkway in the lobby of Carroll Hospital in Westminster.
You can’t sit on these chairs but you can stop to admire them for as long as you want.
“They’re all beautiful. Each one is different and unique and has its own theme,” said Linda Grogan, executive director of Women’s, Children’s and Surgical Services at Carroll Hospital.
33 chairs are up for auction during the “Chair-ity” event to raise money for an expanded neonatal unit at the hospital’s Family Birthplace Center.
You’ll find an Adirondack chair with the Ravens logo on it.
Another set has two high chairs with a barrel table donated by Old Westminster Winery.
There are chairs for children, a chair for the golf lover in your life and rocking chairs.
And don’t forget the stool set featuring Natty Boh and Mrs. Utz.
Judi Robinson donated two chairs to the auction. She is an interior designer and restored two chairs she bought at a thrift store.
“It was a lot of fun and it’s a nice creative way to help the hospital and participate in something like this,” she said.
Grogan says the expansion of the neonatal unit will allow mothers to stay in the same room with their babies. Right now, babies who are born with ailments or prematurely are treated in separate rooms from where their mothers recover.
“It’s better for bonding. It’s better for helping prepare moms for discharge to care for this baby because they’ll be involved. They’ll be partners in care with their baby,” she said.
The auction ends October 6 at 4 p.m.
