After being denied the position as official superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools, members of the Board of Education moved Thursday evening to appoint Verletta White to the role on an interim basis.

The board voted 8 to 4 in favor of the measure, which now advances to the desk of the Maryland State Superintendent for approval.

School Board Member at Large, Julie C. Henn, who was a 'No' vote was hoping other members would allow for more time to consider all options;

"Within BCPS, there are 35 individuals including Mrs. White who are superintendent certified. I regret that the board majority closed the door on those individuals for consideration. This sends the wrong message to hardworking, aspiring leaders who must look outside BCPS for growth opportunities."

If confirmed, White would begin a one year term on July 1.
