MIDDLE RIVER, Md. — Residents living in at least one Middle River townhome have been displaced on the coldest day of the year after a fire Thursday morning.

Baltimore County Fire officials say the fire in the 700 block of Northrop Lane started in one home and then spread to adjacent houses, affecting three overall.

When crews started to battle the blazes, they say they needed to call a second alarm because the weather conditions were so extreme. The Baltimore County Fire Department spokesperson explained to WMAR-2 News that water hoses and other equipment firefighters use can be in jeopardy when it is this cold outside, so additional crews are a necessity.

While three homes were impacted by the fire, officials say they are not sure if residents in all three homes need to be displaced, or just the home where the flames originated.

No injuries or rescues were reported.
