Amazon is working to get their products to Marylanders even faster.
The company is building another distribution center in the state, this time in Baltimore County. In 2020 1,500 workers will be employed at the new distribution center.
Right now, Amazon already has three other centers across the state, employing 5,000 people full time.
This new facility at Tradepoint Atlantic’s site is going to cost the state, and Baltimore County, a pretty penny. They are looking at a $2 million conditional loan from the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority for building costs, and a $200,000 conditional loan from the county.
If Amazon meets certain goals, like hiring 'x' number of employees, they don't have to pay the money back.
The online ordering giant will join other big names like Fed Ex and Harley Davidson at Tradepoint Atlantic's 3,100-acre industrial park.
The brand new center will open in 2019.
