MIDDLE RIVER, Md. — When assistance is needed the Middle River Fire & Rescue team is always there, but now they need your help.

The Dive Rescue team is a volunteer program and Dive Captain Jack Amrhein says their boats have seen better days. He explained a new boat is necessary because it would improve the safety of the divers.

“One of the problems with a rubber, dingy type boat, is getting through rougher waters. The possibility of bouncing our personnel and our equipment is higher,” explained Amrhein.

He also says their current boats do not have proper lighting, a radio, and not a lot of room for necessary equipment.

The team is halfway to their fundraising goal, but they still need another $30,000. They got the first $30,000 from a DNR Matching Grant that was given to them two years ago.

Now with COVID-19, Amrhein says their fundraising efforts are limited, “With the pandemic everything got shut down, so we lost our real big push there.”

They usually would be planning crab feasts, fill the boot events, and other community gatherings for the springtime, but now they are adapting and raising money on GoFundMe and Amazon Smile.

Their deadline is approaching so they say anything you can donate would be a big help.
