Weis Markets announced that five Mars Super Markets will shut their doors on Friday, July 29 at 10 p.m.
The stores will reopen on Thursday, August 4 as Weis Markets.
In a statement, Weis Markets said the stores located in Essex, Arbutus, Carney and Dundalk will employ more than 500 former Mars employees.
“We are excited to steadily grow within Baltimore County and will make this transition as seamless as possible for the community and our new associates,” said Kurt Schertle, Weis Markets’ Chief Operating Officer.
Weiss also plans to buy 38 Food Lion stores in September, six of which are located in the Baltimore area.
Once those reopen as Weis locations, the company will operate 15 stores in the Baltimore region.
