After 55 years, a local volunteer fire company has a new home and ambulance.

On Sunday, the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company held a dedication ceremony at its newly renovated firehouse.

The building, originally constructed in 1963 last received a new addition in 2003.

Renovations such as a fitness center, updated kitchen, 10 new rooms, four of which are live-in and a community meeting room bring the firehouse into the 21st century.

A museum was also opened, showcasing the fire company's original 1897 hand fire apparatus, along with dozens of other historical artifacts.

Total costs of the project surpassed $1.5 million.
