(WMAR) — Maryland State Highway Administration have reopened lanes on I-695 at Providence Road after it was shut down due to police activity on Tuesday.

According to Baltimore County Police, officers closed both directions at the junction to investigate a suspicious rental truck stopped on the highway.

Officials report that an officer attempted to stop the truck on I-83 for speeding when it began to flee from police and ran out of gas. The officer was alarmed by significant damage on the truck and called for a K9/Hazardous Devices Team to investigate, which caused the road closure.

Police reopened the roadway moments after an investigation into the incident.

It is unknown at this time what the suspicious activity was.
