A cherished annual fall tradition in Maryland continues. A giant pumpkin is now on display at Valley View Farms.

This year’s pumpkin has been named Big Dog and weighs 1,736 pounds. Big Dog will be on display until Saturday, October 27. It will then be cut open and its seeds will be counted.

The first person to guess the correct number of seeds in Big Dog will win a $300 Valley View Farms gift card.

"We’ve been doing it for at least 30 years as I recall, because I remember our first world record winner was like a 715-pound pumpkin and now they’re all the way up to 1,700 and we've even had an 1,800-pound pumpkin before," said Plant Department Manager Carrie Engel.

Valley View Farms is known as Maryland’s fall headquarters. There are thousands of pumpkins of all sizes and every other type of fall decoration you can think of.

There is also a large Halloween shop featuring a free haunted house and straw maze for kids.
