Former Baltimore Raven O.J. Brigance to celebrate birthday with fundraiser for ALS

Former Baltimore Raven O.J. Brigance is getting ready to celebrate his 49th birthday with the 4th annual Soiree with O.J. event.

The celebration is scheduled for Friday, October 5th at the Valley Mansion by Martin’s in Hunt Valley. All the proceeds from the event will go to the Brigance Brigade Foundation which helps provide resources for those living with ALS.

“I would like for families in Maryland and across the country to be able to make a decision about their future without having to worry about the financial burden it requires to live with this disease,” said Brigance. “While there will be some life adjustments, realize that you can still have a good quality of life living with ALS.”

Brigance was diagnosed with ALS 11 years ago when he was 37-years-old. At first, he didn’t know if he’d live to see his 40th birthday.

“The average life expectancy is 2-5 years,” said Brigance. “So to be going into our 11th year is a blessing.”

“Many unfortunately, have not seen the length of time that O.J. has seen,” said O.J. Brigance’s wife Chanda Brigance. “We’re so thankful and we’re excited to be able to celebrate another year with O.J.”

The 2018 Soiree with O.J. will be a celebration of life for O.J. as well as a way to honor and support others battling ALS.

“Life is a big thing because we only have one,” said Chanda Brigance. “We only have one chance to live it and live it to the fullest. So if O.J. and I can be a part of helping someone or others do that we’d like to do just that.”
